Hey There

剛至美國時，很納悶，為什麼是”Hey There”，而非”Hey Here”，請教老外，他們也答不出所以然，（為什麼是”Here you go”，而非”There you go”？）。語言感知的障礙總突如其然地用力往自己的後腦杓敲下，會懷疑自己是不是這世界唯一的笨蛋，或者是當大家都笑成一團時，自己是否是唯一那位不解風趣的人，因此假裝理解、假裝大笑，是生活的必備技能。
有時聽不懂個案的述說又不好意思請對方倒帶一次，只好搬出萬用回應法：「嗯哼」，印象最深的是，有名個案跟我談卡車，美式巨型卡車的零件、組裝與維修，我想在中文世界若有人跟我談卡車就足以折騰了，何況美語世界，於是那一次我不僅勤勞地嗯哼，還保持高度傾聽的姿態與微笑。心理諮商臨床或助人實務，語言是不可避免的載體，但也因此，反而焦點著重於言語，而忽略了非語言的助人途徑，譬如自己的面部表情與動作；若仔細翻閱溝通書籍，甚至有學者認為，人與人之間非語言的溝通比例是遠超過言語部分（七比三），因而我常常說，好的助人者，多是好的演員。

所以，常鼓舞在美國的自己，不要認為聽不懂、講不出，就不能協助別人；實習機構有位少女哭了出來，周遭好幾個少年圍過去安慰她，氣氛似乎顯得有些凝重，但我沒有立刻加入，因為同儕之間的扶持是更勝過所謂的學院訓練，之後我私下問一名少年怎麼回事，他告訴我，原來她失戀了，然後難過到有自殺念頭，聽完後，少年跟我講，會跟我督導提這件事，然後也會多關注（watch）她的舉動，似乎這名少年都比我更知道該怎麼反應，於是乎，我也只是在旁理解而已；當這名少女要離開機構時，我走向前，問她是不是一切都好（Are you all right?），她眼睛紅腫地講了一連串的英文，我幾近聽不懂她想要跟我說什麼，我只跟她說：一切都會沒事的，正面些，然後下禮拜二見，講完之後，我主動擁抱她，她說她看我在機構那麼久，我都已經記得她名字，但是她卻連我名字都不記得，最後跟我說，真的會沒事的，我們下禮拜二見。

她難過的時候，四個男生圍在她身旁安慰著她，我猜想，在異性戀的性別結構下，女生難過應該是由女生來安慰，反倒在此卻都是男孩，只是當這麼一想時，又警惕自己不該再用性別的眼光來看待這些情感支持，應該要看見這群青少年如何超脫性別框架，真摯地學習彼此對待「人」。而，我也正在學習這件事情，不是緊抓著語言不放，只用語言瞭解人，而是要真實地對待一個人，發自內心、直抵內心的。

音樂也是超脫語言的語言，有時看見美國青少年隨著音樂跳起舞、唱起歌來，是能以瞭解他們對這世界存在的吼叫，與懷有怎樣的情緒；以下這首歌，我在實習機構聽那群青少年唱了好幾次，於是我向他們問了歌名。
